The star has donated the complete sum of his £25,000 honor winnings to the MVT, which operates to protect the Britain's grassroots concert spaces.

He was awarded the cheque on mid-October as his new release People Watching was named the best record of the last 12 months.

The musician has decided to donate the funds to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages had in his beginning days.

"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," remarked Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, well-known musicians such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

These funds assisted venues that were facing imminent closure due to challenges caused by flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues were granted monetary aid in modernizing facilities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted performers and fans.

"The notion that revenue from performances in big venues backs the independent spots, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has said.

Fender is far from the only musician to contribute his award funds to worthy causes.

Back when they won the trophy in 1996 for their release Different Class, lead singer the singer stated that the band would give their cash to the charity War Child.

During 2002, artist she split her award among multiple organizations, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also contributed a £1,000 to the center, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

Previously, they donated their winnings to the community center that nurtured their group, as well as other local music groups.

Also the 1994 recipients M People gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the illness.

"Winning was quite enough," stated vocalist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had rescued several small stages in south-east England, by transferring them to community ownership.

The Joiners in the city and the second in the city were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is backed by the arts council and music fans who acquire "shares" in the properties.
